Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO – WAYLLABAMBA
We´ll pick you up at your hotel between 7:00 and 7.30 a.m., to board a bus that will take us directly to Piskacucho (2,700 m. above sea level); a small community located near kilometer 82 of the railway to Machu Picchu. There, we´ll start our trek and will join the whole team of professionals who will make our trip a full success. We´ll cross the bridge and then, we´ll begin our walk along the left bank of the Urubamba River that flows towards the Northeast of the Sacred Valley. After going by some benched terraces, we´ll get to Miskay (2,800 m.a.s.l.). Then, we´ll walk uphill and will finally see the Incan City of Patallacta or Llactapata (2,750 m.a.s.l.). Afterwards, we´ll continue our trek along the valley formed by the Kusichaca River, all the way to our first camp in Wayllabamba (3,000 m.a.s.l.), where we´ll have a good dinner and will spend the night.
During the journey, we´ll enjoy splendid panoramas such as that of the Vilcanota River, The Urubamba mountain range, with the snow-covered summit of Mount La Verónica (5,750 m.a.s.l.), as well as a great variety of flora and fauna, throughout the whole journey.
DAY 2: WAYLLABAMBA - WARMIWAÑUSCA - PACAYMAYU: After breakfast, at about 7.00 a.m., we´ll get on with the hardest part of the trek, as the walk consists of an almost 9 km. steep and narrow uphill path. On our way up, the landscape will change from mountain to highlands; a dry and high region with scarce vegetation. Then, we´ll reach the first mountain pass at 4,200 m.a.s.l., known as Abra of Warmihuañusca, where we´ll be able to observe domestic lamas and alpacas that pasture on ichu; one of the few plants that grow at that altitude. We´ll also cross part of the forest where a diversity of birds and animals like sparrows and the Andean or spectacled bear live. It is advisable to take cereal or energy bars and coca leaves along to maintain a high level of energy in the organism in order to counteract the altitude illness and cold. After the mountain pass, we´ll walk towards Pacaymayu Valley (3,600 m.a.s.l.) and set our camp for the night there.
DAY 3: PACAYMAYU – WIÑAYWAYNA: This is the longest, but most interesting and impressive day on our trek, because we´ll visit a great number of archaeological sites, as our guide will tell us about them. From Pacaymayu, we´ll go up to the second mountain pass called Abra of Runkurakay (3,970 m.a.s.l.). There, we´ll visit the archaeological complex of the same name, at 3,800 m.a.s.l. and will go by important remains of the Incan culture. After having gone over the mountain pass, we´ll descend towards Yanacona (Black Lagoon), to finally arrive in Sayacmarca (3,624 m.a.s.l.), where we´ll have lunch. Then, we´ll go on with our walk, as we´ll observe nature and the landscape as they change from dry and mountainous, to a green and semi-tropical forest´s edge. Afterwards, we´ll continue on an easy uphill slope, going up to the third mountain pass called Phuyupatamarca (3,700 m.a.s.l.), following our trek, as we´ll go through an Incan tunnel and finally arrive at the mountain pass. Phuyupatamarca is one of the best preserved archaeological complexes and it is located on the highest part of the mountain. Phuyupatamarca means "High Place Above the Clouds" and it is where we´ll be able to observe a sophisticated complex composed of water fountains on solid foundations and enjoy impressive views of the Urubamaba River, along which we´ll continue ascending towards Wiñaywayna (2,700 m.a.s.l.) which means "Forever Young", to go on a guided visit of this spectacularly located archaeological complex. Finally, we´ll have dinner and spend the night at the camp.
DAY 4: WIÑAYWAYNA – MACHU PICCHU
At Wiñaywayna, we´ll get up around 4:00 a.m., to go to the Sun´s Gate or Inti Punku, where we´ll enjoy a panoramic view of Machu Picchu, as well as a magnificent sunrise. After a walk on flat stones, by the edge of the mountains´ cliffs of Inti Punku, we´ll descend towards Machu Picchu, arriving there in about 40 minutes and then, we´ll go to the Historical Sanctuary, where we´ll enjoy a guided visit of about 2 hours, after which you´ll have some free time to walk around the complex or go up Huayna Picchu Mountain, where  you´ll have a chance to experience spectacular views of surrounding valleys and mountains or still, to visit the Temple of the Moon and the fabulous Inca´s Bridge. In the afternoon, we´ll descend to the village of Aguas Calientes, where we´ll have the opportunity to visit the thermal baths and finally, we´ll return to the city of Cusco, by train.  Upon arrival, we´ll transfer you to your hotel.
